Kainaliu Beach

Kainaliu Beach

My favorite place in the world is Kainaliu Beach.

It's located at Longitude 19'31" N by Latitude 155'51" W.  In relative terms, it is makai of Kealakekua about 2 1/2 miles dodwn Halekii road to the ocian.  This road was built for a high end golf course and subdivision, Hokulia.

The Place.  It's a hot rocky beach with a cliff behind iti.  the weather is tyical leeward Hawii weather.  It is a calm place.

The Plants found there are thorny:  kiawe trrees, opiuma trees, klu bushes, and lantana as well as grasses.  Animals that I have seen there are Iwa birds, owl, doves, flocks of parrots, turkeys, cattle, goats, mice and mongoose.

We go there to fish, free dive, hunt and camp.  the water entry is difficult and goat hunting is good.  The fish are smart from being hunted.  The only buildings at this beach are abandoned outhouses.  There are no visible Hawaiian remains.

Human Impact Ranching has impacted the beach with the introduction of plants and animals - goats, cattle and wild feed plants intoduced for grazing.  My Uncles and Aunties went there as kids to camp, fish, dive and dry fish.  We call it Hooper Beach.  Today, people land and launch kayuaks and it is easier to get to.

Kainaliu Beach is in the Ahupuaa of Kanaueue, the Moku of Hawaii on the Leeward side of Hawaii Island.  It is in the countuy of Hawaii in the State of Hawaii.  It is my favorite place to go.
